Tommies Women's Volleyball Adds Kassandra Roy
Fredericton, NB – Tommies women’s volleyball team is thrilled to announce the addition of Kassandra Roy from Dieppe, New Brunswick, to the Tommies roster for the 2024-2025 season.
Roy, a versatile left-side/right-side player who has primarily played left side, brings a wealth of talent and a strong work ethic to the team. She honed her skills playing for Mathieu-Martin High School and the Fuzion U18 club team, where she established herself as a standout player with a deep passion for the sport.
"I will bring a lot of passion and care to succeed in my studies and to achieve my goals in life. For my team, I will also bring focus and hard work to become a better volleyball player and to help the team win as one," said Roy, expressing her dedication to both her academic and athletic pursuits.
Roy chose St. Thomas University for its volleyball program and excellent coaching staff. "I wanted to play on a good team and be coached by a good coaching staff. I want to make new friends and explore what I can do" she shared. Roy is enthusiastic about joining the STU program and appreciates the support she has received from the coaching staff, particularly Coach Kim, whom she knows from the PEP program. "Coach Kim really helped me improve my skills in volleyball, not only physically but mentally as well. My confidence has also been getting higher after doing the PEP program with Coach Kim. I like her coaching ways and how calm she is." Roy remarked.
Academically, Roy is interested in physical education and criminology. "I am a very sporty person and love to see people active and would love to guide younger students. I think this would be a good career for me. I am also interested in criminology" she explained. In addition to her volleyball commitments, Roy stays active by working out twice a week and occasionally referees volleyball matches. Roy describes herself as open and eager to receive advice to improve both as an athlete and as an individual. She looks forward to making new friends and being part of the Tommies family.
"Kass is a dynamic outside hitter that will add versatility to our offence” said Coach Kim. "I’ve had the pleasure of watching Kass develop through club, school and PEP programs over the past few years. We are excited to welcome Kass to STU and looking forward to the competitiveness and solid skill set she brings and to seeing her grow and contribute to the team's success."
